The beginning of a new year is a great time to look towards the future, but it’s also a fantastic time for reflection.

Twenty-twenty-two was an exciting year for new content and fresh recipes on the site and across my social channels and I am so excited to use what I learned about what recipes you all love to help me bring you more delicious, easy to duplicate recipes to inspire your kitchen adventures.

The recipes that made the top 10 list of favorites come from both the pages that performed best here on my site as well as from among the videos and photos that had the most reach and engagement on my social channels. I wanted to share an accurate picture of the most loved eats from all of the content I created this year, regardless of the delivery method.

The Surprise Entries on This Year’s Top 10 List

I am surprised at how much buzz was generated by the cookie butter Reel I posted on Instagram.

I truly think it is the controversiality of the butter board. People are passionate about their love (and their hate!) of this trend and that definitely played a role in the virality of my cookie butter board Reel. It inspired thousands of comments across Facebook and Instagram making it my most viewed video of 2022.

And, while a lot of people reached out to say how much they abhor the idea of a butter board at a party, there were a significant number who also reached out to share that they truly just love the idea of using cookies as a spread.

Agreed!

The One We All Saw Coming

I doubt anyone will be surprised about the recipe that stole the second spot for most popular this year.

Biscuits are something I am so passionate about making and sharing and I hope that shines through when I share them with you. I love that you all seem just as excited about perfecting your biscuit baking skills as I am about imparting the knowledge I’ve gained from countless hours in the kitchen creating the perfect recipe and process.

I’m excited to share some other takes on the classic buttermilk biscuit recipe with you in 2023!

So, without further ado, here are the top recipes of 2022!

1. Homemade Cookie Butter

Cookie butter is a magical thing.

If you’ve never heard of it, you’re most certainly missing out on a delicious, spreadable treat. You can use it as a dip for anything from pretzels to apple slices because basically everything tastes better dipped in cookies.

2. The Perfect Buttermilk Biscuits

Chef Carla Hall’s 10 Most Popular Recipes of 2022 – Carla Hall (3)

These homemade buttermilk biscuits are exactly what biscuits should be. They’ve got flaky layers so fine they melt in your mouth. There’s just enough flour and leavening to make these buttermilk biscuits rise so the fat doesn’t weigh them down into greasy pucks. You’ll be left with biscuits that are light and airy and amazing, with plenty of buttermilk to keep them moist.

3. Sweet Tea Soda

A tall ice-filled glass of sweet tea is like a period on a sentence. It completes me.

Add bubbles and whoo whee! Nothing’s more refreshing.

I model my mix on Granny’s, Lipton tea bags and all. It’s dark amber with a good pucker and not too sugary.

It’s the perfect thirst quencher for summer days, but it really does the trick no matter the season.

4. The Best Ever 5 Flavor Pound Cake

This was our family dessert, the cake we begged Granny to send us when we moved away, the cake she always served at Christmas.

Whenever she mailed one to me, she wrapped it in layers and layers of paper and plastic wrap. It was the best gift—one that I’m happy to share.

Granny used to make hers in a loaf pan, but I’ve updated this version to a bundt pan and added a sweet vanilla rum glaze to make for a pretty presentation on your table every time you serve it.

5. Four Cheese Mac and Cheese

Mac and cheese is the perennial comfort food.

You really can’t be expected to survive winter without a hearty, delicious, extra cheesy bowl of macaroni and cheese in your life.

I love the different flavors added by the four different cheeses in this four-cheese macaroni. They all bring their own little taste of magic to the table resulting in a creamy mac dish your entire family will adore.

It makes the perfect side dish, but if you dress it up with some grilled chicken or lobster you have a main dish meal with great flavor and plenty of staying power.

6. Black Eyed Peas Salad

I don’t know about you, but I love a filling, hearty salad and this black-eyed pea salad definitely fits the bill.

Full of delicious, chopped vegetables and fresh herbs, then topped with a creamy green goddess sunflower seed dressing, this main-dish salad is the perfect lunch or light dinner option to energize your day.

7. Curry Chicken Salad

This one was a big hit on The Chew!

It’s a great way to use up your rotisserie chicken and give it a new life in a fresh meal. You’ll love the crunch added by the slivered almonds and the hint of sweetness the grapes bring.

Make this one and added some zing to your lunch this week.

8. Cranberry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Traditional oatmeal cookies will always be a classic, but I love dressing them up a bit.

This version with dried cranberries and white chocolate chips is the perfect way to add a little fun and excitement to your traditional oatmeal cookie recipe.

9. Crust on the Bottom Chicken Pot Pie

The key to my version of pot pie is having crust on the top and bottom—and getting that bottom crust browned and crisp before it gets soaked with sauce.

I bake the crust alone, then spoon the hot filling over one piece and top with another. I love the way the crust stays flaky (yum) and doesn’t have that gooey raw dough layer (blech). Plus, it makes it great for entertaining.

You can bake the crust early, keep the filling simmering, and just combine them when you’re ready to serve.

10. Vegan Southern Collard Greens

You know how much I love my southern cooking so you know I wouldn’t steer you wrong on this one.

You don’t need bacon fat, ham hocks, or any other meat products to flavor your greens. If you’re looking for an easy, tasty collard greens recipe to add to your table with a vegan twist, you will want to try this one.
