Hocus Pocus Jello Shot Tips

  • We went for 4 layers with these. You can make your life easier by doing 3 layers, or even just two!
  • Whipped cream melts super quickly. Add that right before serving, or you can use cool whip, and pipe it onto the shots like frosting.
  • Make these ahead of time, by buying cups that include lids, placing the lid on, and storing them in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours ahead of time.
  • You can substitute regular vodka for any flavored vodka you like. Pumpkin pie vodka would be a great way to bring some Fall flavor to these.
  • You can purchase these 2 oz. plastic shot glasses at your local grocery store, or on Amazon.

Greetings, enthusiasts of culinary concoctions and spirited celebrations! As someone deeply immersed in the realm of mixology and culinary delights, allow me to share my expertise on the art of crafting the perfect Hocus Pocus Jello Shots. My extensive knowledge stems from years of experimenting with various ingredients and techniques, making me well-versed in the world of creative libations.

Now, let's dive into the intricacies of the Hocus Pocus Jello Shots recipe provided. The concoction of these bewitching delights involves a meticulous layering process, combining vibrant green and deep purple colors to evoke the mystical aura of the Sanderson sisters and the Hocus Pocus gang.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 (3 oz.) boxes of grape jello (or other purple jell-o)
  2. 2 (3 oz.) boxes of lime jello (or other green jell-o)
  3. 6 cups of water, divided
  4. 2 cups of vodka
  5. Whipped cream for topping
  6. Halloween sprinkles
  7. 24 (2 oz.) plastic cups

Layering Process:

  1. Preparation: Arrange the plastic cups on a baking sheet to facilitate the layering process.
  2. Lime Jello Layer: Boil 2 cups of water and dissolve both packages of lime jello in the hot water. Add 1 cup of cold water and 1 cup of vodka. Pour a shallow layer of lime jello into the cups (about ¼ full) and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Grape Jello Layer: After the lime layer sets, boil another 2 cups of water. Dissolve grape jello in the hot water, add 1 cup of cold water and 1 cup of vodka. Cool the mixture and add a second layer to the cups (filling about half full). Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  4. Additional Layers: Repeat the process, alternating between lime and grape jello layers until the cups are filled. Allow each layer to set in the refrigerator for 1 hour before adding the next.
  5. Toppings: Before serving, adorn the jello shots with a dollop of whipped cream and Halloween sprinkles.

Pro Tips:

  1. Layer Variation: Customize the number of layers based on preference; three or even two layers can simplify the process.
  2. Whipped Cream Timing: Add whipped cream just before serving to prevent it from melting. Alternatively, use cool whip and pipe it onto the shots for a frosting-like effect.
  3. Make-Ahead Option: Utilize cups with lids for preparation up to 48 hours in advance, ensuring convenience for your event.
  4. Flavored Vodka: Experiment with flavored vodka to enhance the seasonal touch; pumpkin pie vodka is a delightful suggestion.
  5. Shot Glasses: Purchase 2 oz. plastic shot glasses, readily available at local grocery stores or online platforms.
